Travel, explore, and learn along the way
This blog is about meaningful ways to explore with family—on the road and closer to home. I share places we visit, people we meet, and experiences that connect us with food, farms, nature, art, and local communities.
I also share some of the simple things we do to help our kids become active participants in our travels—from making their own packing lists to keeping field journals and reflecting on what surprised, delighted, or disappointed them along the way.
Not every outing has to be educational, of course. Sometimes a great beach is just a great beach. But we have found that giving kids opportunities to observe, ask questions, create, and participate makes our travels richer—and often more fun.
Summer Roadtrip — Visiting Farms and Beaches
This summer my family and I embarked on a different type of vacation. I wanted to learn about sustainable ways to grow food and my kids wanted to have fun at the beach. We charted a course that allowed us to do both.

The Hudson Valley region gave us an opportunity to see several farms that are growing food sustainably. We also visited an art center, which celebrates the landscape as much as it showcases art.
